Occupational Safety and Health

◉ Occupational safety and health management

management Occupational safety and health management is of vital importance. It protects the health and safety of employees, improves the quality of the working environment, and thus enhances work efficiency and corporate productivity. It can effectively prevent occupational diseases and work-related accidents, and reduce employee absences due to health problems. Occupational safety and health management is not only a company's commitment and responsibility to its employees, but also an important foundation for ensuring the company's sustainable development and competitiveness.

Occupational Safety and Health

Management System Everest has established a complete occupational safety and health management system based on ISO 45001 standards, covering operations in Taiwan, Shanghai, Thailand, and the United States. All factories follow the relevant regulations of the United States OSHA, and the environmental safety and health supervisors hold the United States OSHA 30-hour training certificate. This system ensures the safety and health of employees, contractors and visitors through internal audits and external verification. Each factory has an Occupational Safety and Health Committee, which holds regular meetings to review safety and health policies, management plans, education and training, work environment monitoring and other matters, conducts risk assessments and implements improvement measures.

Occupational Safety and Health Committee: Each factory committee is composed of representatives from both the management and labor sides, and mainly reviews safety and health policies, education and training, work environment monitoring, occupational disaster investigations and other matters. The establishment of the committee not only ensures the participation of employees, but also strengthens communication and trust between the company and employees.

Occupational health and safety coverage

The occupational safety and health management system (ISO45001 certification, internal audit, occupational safety and health management system) covers all employees and contractors. Coverage:

Occupational health and safety risk management

The risks that may occur in the overall occupational safety and health management of Everest are summarized into: mechanical equipment entrapment hazard risk, workplace noise hazard risk, construction safety risks for employees and contractors, chemical storage and use safety risk, disaster loss control risk, etc. Everest’s Taiwan and overseas factories set goals and implement management plans to continuously reduce the occupational safety and health risks of their workers. The Occupational Safety and Health Committee shall hold meetings regularly according to the cycle determined by each factory. Its main deliberation items and work contents are as follows: (1) Make recommendations on the occupational safety and health policy formulated by the employer. (2) Coordinate and propose occupational safety and health management plans. (3) Review the implementation plan of safety and health education and training. (4) Review the work environment monitoring plan, monitoring results and measures to be taken. (5) Review health management, occupational disease prevention and health promotion matters. (6) Review various safety and health proposals. (7) Review business unit self-inspection and safety and health audit matters. (8) Review measures to prevent hazards caused by machinery, equipment or raw materials. (9) Review occupational accident investigation reports. (10) Evaluate the performance of on-site safety and health management. (11) Review safety and health management matters of contracted enterprises. (12) Other matters related to occupational safety and health management. (13) Communication and coordination matters.

Work injury statistics:

In 2024, there were 16 work-related accidents in Taiwan, including 8 in the factory, 1 of moderate injury and 3 mild injuries, all resulting from falls. There were 2 injuries caused by flying objects, 1 injury from exposure to hazardous substances, and 1 injury from falling, all of which were minor injuries. For 8 traffic accidents outside the factory, the company strengthened the publicity of employees' traffic safety awareness and defensive driving concepts, effectively reducing the incidence of traffic accidents. In terms of overseas factories, there were 5 accidents in the Shanghai factory, including 1 traffic accident, 1 object rebound injury, and 3 crush injuries. There was 1 work-related accident in the Thailand factory due to improper operation at work, in which a finger was struck by an object. There were 6 accidents in the American factory, including 2 mild injuries and 4 moderate injuries. At present, the company has strengthened the publicity of employees' traffic safety awareness and defensive driving concepts, effectively reducing the incidence of traffic accidents. In addition, according to the 2024 occupational disease statistics, no occupational disease incidents occurred in the Taiwan, Shanghai, Thailand, and US factories.

Investigation and Improvement of Work-related Accidents

Everest places great importance on occupational safety and health management. When a work-related accident occurs, a temporary investigation team consisting of the supervisor of the accident unit, occupational safety personnel and related personnel will be immediately established to analyze the root cause of the accident using RCA (root cause analysis method), and an improvement and implementation plan will be developed in accordance with the PDCA (plan-do-check-act) cycle to prevent similar accidents and reduce the risk of work-related injuries. Subsequent improvement measures will be submitted to the Occupational Safety and Health Committee for review, and the implementation will be continuously tracked and supervised to enhance the efficiency of accident prevention and management. For employees who spontaneously participate in disaster relief, notify the on-site supervisor, or evacuate the site for safety reasons, the company will not hold them accountable for any resulting absence, which reflects the people-oriented safety culture. In addition, in order to promote communication on occupational safety and health, the company regularly engages with employees and contractors through the Occupational Safety and Health Committee platform to ensure transparency and two-way communication of workplace safety information. For the contractor's construction work, the company also conducts safety and health briefings and on-site inspections prior to commencement of work to enhance the contractor's safety awareness and operation level. Everest is committed to creating a safe, healthy and zero-disaster working environment through continuous improvements to the safety management system and concrete actions.

Occupational Health and Safety Training

Everest regularly conducts occupational safety and health training to enhance employees' safety awareness and response capabilities. The training content includes general safety education, specialized training (such as noise hazards, chemical protection, forklift operation, etc.), and  pre-construction safety briefings and inspections for contractors. These trainings are targeted at specific working environments to ensure employees can effectively respond to specific hazards.

【Contractor Management】

Before entering the factory for construction, contractors must complete the relevant pre-construction work in accordance with the factory's "Contractor Management Measures", fill in the "Contractor's Safety Instructions for Construction Work in the Factory" and the "Safety Permit Application Form", and submit them to the factory for review and approval before construction can begin. Depending on the construction method, the "Safety Checklist for Various Operations" must be completed before the construction day. The work content includes: general construction work such as hot work, elevated construction, trench excavation, etc. The factory supervisor must confirm the items in the "Safety Checklist for Various Operations" and only start construction after confirming that there are no abnormalities. At the Shanghai factory, when signing special project contracts with suppliers and contractors, both parties sign a "Contractor Operation Safety Agreement". Prior to the start of the project, a "Special Project Start-up Order" must be signed and approved. Meetings are organized to communicate and coordinate safety and health matters, ensure compliance with occupational safety laws and factory regulations, implement protective measures and control procedures, and maintain a safe construction environment. GRI 403-7 Everest's factory conducts various safety inspections on construction work in accordance with the "Contractor Management Regulations" to ensure the safety of construction personnel, avoid work-related injuries, create a safe working environment, and achieve the goal of zero accidents. Emergency management regulations and other relevant documents have been formulated to standardize relevant emergency disposal processes. Fire drills are conducted every six months, and all drills are conducted in conjunction with external authorities. To ensure that contractors can work safely in the factory, contractors must register and renew their licenses, conduct safety publicity, check safety equipment, and comply with the company's safety regulations before entering the factory every day for construction.

Fire simulation drill/toxic disaster training course

After a disaster occurs, power outages may occur, resulting in poor visibility. When a large number of people evacuate, falls or stampedes are likely to occur. In order to prevent disasters, enhance self-response and protection capabilities, raise colleagues' disaster prevention awareness, and ensure smooth evacuation when disasters occur. In 2024, the Taiwan factory conducted three full-site fire safety drills and toxic disaster training courses to enhance colleagues' disaster prevention capabilities. The Shanghai and US factories each held two full-site emergency evacuation drills to strengthen crisis response capabilities when disasters occur, improve employee safety awareness and safe evacuation capabilities, and take various preventive measures before disasters occur. Evacuation and notification after a disaster can reduce the company's asset and manpower losses.

Corporate Volunteer Firefighting Activities

Tainan City Fire Department actively promotes corporate volunteer firefighting. In view of the high risk of factory fires, Everest Industrial Co., Ltd. established a "fire brigade" in 2024 and organized personnel (divided into three groups, a total of 28 people) to respond to the corporate volunteer firefighting plan. The Fire Department's Fourth Disaster Rescue Team held an enlistment ceremony at Everest Industrial Co., Ltd., emphasizing the importance of "safeguarding one's own property" and assisting in training employees to improve initial firefighting and disaster rescue capabilities. Everest Industrial Co., Ltd. provides fire brigade employees with public holiday training, allowances and overtime pay to encourage participation in disaster response efforts. The Fire Department hopes to encourage more manufacturers to participate through the corporate volunteer firefighting program, jointly improve Tainan City's firefighting capabilities, strengthen factory disaster response capabilities, and create a safer environment. In response to the corporate volunteer firefighting recruitment plan promoted by the Fire Department, the company will be able to control the disaster situation, strengthen disaster response capabilities, and improve employees' firefighting and disaster relief capabilities when a disaster occurs, thereby ensuring the safety of both the company and its employees. In addition to allowances and benefits, the company will also provide fire training public holidays and overtime subsidies for colleagues who assist in disaster relief. These six corporate volunteer firefighters were originally the "fire brigade" of the company's fire self-defense force. Textile factories contain a large amount of flammable materials and chemicals, making corporate disaster prevention and fire safety even more important. Participating in volunteer firefighting activities can not only help each other, but also cultivate employees' emergency response capabilities, reduce disaster losses, protect factories to achieve public safety, community stability, and protect the lives and property of employees.

ⓄEmployee Health Management

Employees are the company's most valuable assets. We actively invest in health promotion resources and are committed to improving employees' physical and mental health and workplace safety. Our goal is to create a safer, more comfortable and friendly working environment so that every employee can fully realize their potential in a healthy working atmosphere. In addition to formulating a comprehensive health promotion plan in accordance with regulations, we also conduct data analysis through the health management system, compare the results of health examinations over the years, and implement a comprehensive health management mechanism based on the type and severity of abnormalities, including hierarchical management, continuous tracking and professional medical consultation, to ensure that employees' health is effectively, systematically and continuously cared for.

ⓄHealth management mechanism

In order to strengthen employees' awareness of health management, improve overall work ability, and reduce employees' occupational disease risks, the Environmental Safety Office implements job selection consultation (establishing health records, diseases that are not suitable for work in accordance with Appendix 8 of the Labor Health Protection Regulations), health screening (including physical and medical check-ups), health classification and management (health education, consultation, re-examination), job transfer, and return to work The subjects cover both employees in service and transferred employees, ensuring that the health management of all employees is properly paid attention to.

ⓄMajor health hazards and special health checks

The Taiwan factory identified the main health hazards as noise hazards in weaving mills and yarn processing factories, and chemical hazards in organic workplaces in post-processing, cutting-edge technology research institutes, and polyurethane factories. The Shanghai factory identified physical hazards such as noise hazards, wastewater treatment, and dyeing, as well as chemical hazards. The  American factory identified noise hazards in weaving mills and yarn processing factories. Special health checks were conducted on employees engaged in related operations. If abnormal health check values are found, in addition to providing health consultation guidance and follow-up management, education and training and the wearing of protective equipment are also strengthened.
